You can use this guide to help troubleshoot basic issues if you are having trouble completing a long distance call.
You can use this guide to help troubleshoot basic issues if you are having trouble completing a long distance call.
First you will want to check to see if you can make a local call. If you cannot make a local call than you are having other issues then long distance troubles. If you are able to place a local call, you will want to make sure that you are using the "1+" and then the number to make a long distance call within the United States. If you are still unable to make a call please consider the following information:
Dial-Around Testing
- Check to make sure that you have subscribed to long distances services that can be dialed through your telephone service.
- If you have not subscribed to long distance services, you will need to use a dial-around code in order to place a long distance call. See below for more information on how to place a dial-around call.
- You or someone else could have placed a toll restriction on the account to block long distance calling.
- If you still are unable to make long distance calls there could be an issue with your long distance providers switch, please contact the helpdesk at 1.888.565.3200 for further assistance.
Dial-Around Testing
- Inside a Rural Telephone exchange, you may complete the 700 test call to 1-700-555-4141. With
this test call, you will hear a recording of what interlata
long distance carrier is assigned to the phone they are calling from.
Within the Rural Telephone exchanges those customers that have Nex-Tech
long distance will hear "Thank you for choosing MCI for your long
distance service." as our traffic is carried by MCI.
- Inside of Rural Telephone exchanges (with Nex-Tech long distance), you may complete the dial around test to 10-10-555 and the number you are trying to call (example dial 10-10-555 -1-785-567-4281)
- Inside of Rural Telephone exchanges (not Nex-Tech long distance), you may complete the dial around test to 10-10-220 and the number you are trying to call (example dial 10-10-220 -1-785-567-4281)
- Outside of Rural Telephone exchanges may complete the 700 test call to 1-700-555-4141 (intralata carrier). With
this test call the customer will hear a recording of what long distance
carrier is assigned to the phone line they are calling from. Those
customers outside the Rural Telephone exchanges that have Nex-Tech long
distance will hear "Thank you for choosing Nex-Tech for your long
distance service"
- Outside of Rural Telephone exchanges (with Nex-Tech long distance), you may complete the dial around test: 10-10-432 and the number you are trying to call (example dial 10-10-432 -1-785-567-4281)
- Outside of Rural Telephone exchanges (not with Nex-Tech long distance), you may complete the dial around test utilizing their long distance carrier code.
