Calling Features
This is a list of tips and instructions using your touch tone telephone. You will be able to turn on and off features that you have enabled on your telephone service. Note: that not all services will be available, some require a paid subscription. Contact your local Nex-Tech office to find out if you have a particular service available or to order any of the services you may not have.
To Activate Anonymous Call Rejection:
- Press *77
To Deactivate Anonymous Call Rejection
- Press *87
Automatic Recall
(This feature is not available in all areas)
This feature performs automatic redial to the party who most recently dialed your number.
How to Use Automatic Recall:
- Lift the handset and press *69, a voice recording will help you with this feature.
Automatic Redial
(This feature is not available in all areas)
This feature performs automatic redial of a busy number for up to 30 minutes. A special ring alerts you when the called number is available.
How to Use Automatic Redial:
- When you get a busy signal, press and release the switch hook or flash button.
- Press *66
- If the called number is still busy, the voice announcement will tell you to hang up. Automatic Redial will attempt to make the connection for up to 30 minutes.
- Your phone will signal with a special ring if the called number becomes available within 30 minutes.
- When you hear the signal, pick up the handset and wait for the called party to answer.
- If you do not receive a signal within 30 minutes, Automatic Redial will automatically cancel.
To Cancel Automatic Redial:
- Press *86
Call Forwarding
This feature enables your phone to transfer incoming calls to another number of your choice.
- NOTE: You will be charged long distance rates for calls forwarded to a long distance number.
To Forward Your Calls:
- Lift the handset, press *72 and wait for the dial tone.
- Dial the number you want to forward calls to.
(You can use Speed Dialing codes if you have this feature). - The Call Forwarding feature is activated soon as someone answer at the forwarding number.
- If there is no answer at the forwarding number or if the line is busy, hang up the phone and repeat the steps above within two minutes. You will hear two "beeps," meaning Call Forwarding is now working.
- Once Call Forwarding is activated, your phone will make one short ring each time a call is forwarded. You will be able to make outgoing calls from your phone, even if call forwarding is activated.
- To change the number to which calls are being forwarded, just deactivate the feature (see below), then follow the steps above to forward calls to a new number.
To Deactivate Call Forwarding:
- Lift the handset and press *73. Listen for two "beeps," then hang up. The feature is no longer in effect and calls will ring through.
Remote Call Forwarding:
- Lift your current handset and dial your Remote Call Forwarding number(785-445-0700).
- Enter phone number being forwarded then press #
- After being prompted, enter pin number then press #
- Enter *72 followed by the full 10-digit phone number being forwarded to. Example *727856211234
- To turn call forwarding off remotely, follow the same instructions above but dial *73 instead of *72(10-digit phone number)
AT&T Call Forwarding
Steps are the same, the only difference is AT&T uses 72# and 73# instead of *72 or *73.
Call Forwarding-Busy
Calls are forwarded to a predesignated number when your phone rings busy.
- NOTE: You will be charged long distance rates for calls forwarded to a long distance number.
To Activate Call Forwarding-Busy:
- Lift the handset and press *90
- Dial the telephone number you want your calls forwarded to.
- When the phone is answered, your Call Forwarding-Busy is in effect.
- If the line is busy, or there is no answer, hang up. Within two minutes, repeat the first two steps.
- You will hear a confirmation tone to let you know your Call Forwarding-Busy is now working.
To Deactivate Call Forwarding-Busy:
- Lift the handset and press *91
- Listen for the confirmation tone, then hang up. Your Call Forwarding-Busy is now off.
To Change the "Forward To" Number:
- Turn off Call Forwarding-Busy (see directions above).
- Repeat the steps above to turn on Call Forwarding-Busy, enter the new "forward to" number.
Call Forwarding-Delayed
Calls are forwarded to a predesignated number after no answer for a number of seconds.
- NOTE: You will be charged long distance rates for calls forwarded to a long distance number.
To Activate Call Forwarding-Delayed:
- Lift the handset and press *92
- Dial the telephone number you want your calls forwarded to.
- When the phone is answered, your Call Forwarding-Delayed is in effect.
- If the line is busy, or there is no answer, hang up. Within two minutes, repeat the first two steps.
- You will hear a confirmation tone to let you know your Call Forwarding-Delayed is now working.
To Deactivate Call Forwarding-Delayed:
- Lift the handset and press *93
- Listen for the confirmation tone, then hang up. Your Call Forwarding-Delayed is now off.
To Change the "Forward To" Number:
- Turn off Call Forwarding-Delayed (see directions above).
- Repeat the steps above to turn on Call Forwarding-Delayed, enter the new "forward to" number.
Call Waiting Caller ID
Shows the name and/or number of the incoming caller while you are on another call.
NOTE : You must have a Caller ID box or telephone that supports Call Waiting Caller ID.
Call Waiting Enhanced
Call Waiting Enhanced alerts you with a special tone if you have an incoming call while you are on the line.
NOTE : If your telephone has a flash button it works best to use the flash button.
To Use Call Waiting Enhanced:
- A special tone alerts you that another call is waiting.
(Only you will hear this tone). - Another beep will be heard 10 seconds later if the waiting call remains unanswered.
To Answer the Second Call:
- Depress the switch hook or flash button for one second and you are automatically connected with the second caller.
To Alternate Between Calls:
- You may alternate between calls by depressing the switch hook or flash button for one second.
NOTE : Each conversation is private and cannot be heard by the other caller.
To Terminate Either Call:
- Depress the switch hook or flash button until your telephone rings.
- When you release the switch hook or flash button, you are connected with the other caller.
To Disable Call Waiting Enhanced on a Per Call Basis:
- Lift the handset and press *70, then dial the number.
To Disable Call Waiting Enhanced During a Call:
- Press and release the switch hook or flash button.
- Press *70 and you are automatically reconnected to your call. As soon as the call is completed and you hang up, Call Waiting Enhanced returns automatically to your phone.
Caller ID Block
This feature prevents your telephone number from displaying on the called parties Caller ID on a per call basis.
To Use Caller ID Block:
- Lift the handset and press *67, then dial the outgoing telephone number. This blocks your number on this one call only.
Caller ID Block-Cancel
This feature allows your non-published telephone number to display on the called parties Caller ID on a per-call basis.
To Use Caller ID Block-Cancel:
- Lift the handset and press *82, then dial the outgoing telephone number. This unlocks your non-published number on this one call only.
Caller ID-Name & Number
Shows the name and number of the person calling.
Caller ID-Number
Shows the number of the person calling.
Customer Originated Trace
Customer Originated Trace enables you to initiate a trace on the last incoming call.
To Activate Customer Originated Trace:
- Press *57
The trace information, including the traced dialed number, the date and time of the trace, the location and dialed number of the called party's station, and the date and time of the call, is printed at Rural Telephone's central office. Once a formal complaint has been filed by the customer with law enforcement officials, the trace information can be obtained by the customer, from the law enforcement officials.
NOTE : A service fee applies only when a call is successfully traced.
Distinctive Ringing
(This feature is not available in all areas)
The feature allows two different numbers to be assigned to a single party line. The main number will have one long ring. The secondary number will have two short rings. Distinctive Ringing is generally used for a fax modem line, as well as a children's line.
Do Not Disturb
(This feature is not available in all areas)
Are you often too busy to be interrupted by phone calls? Would you like to have a "Do Not Disturb" sign on your phone? This feature provides you with all the quiet time you need.
To Activate Do Not Disturb:
- Lift the handset and press *78. When this feature is activated, callers will hear a message stating "This person is currently not accepting phone calls".
To Deactivate Do Not Disturb:
- Lift the handset and press *79. You will now receive calls as usual.
Easy Attendant
(This feature is not available in all areas)
This feature is an automatic call answering service that delivers an interactive menu to callers, allowing them to listen to a recorded message, invites them to enter the extension number of the person they wish to contact or transfer directly to a voicemail account and leave a message. It can be configured to play different menus for business and non-business hours.
Find-Me-Follow-Me
(This feature is not available in all areas)
This feature enables subscribers to configure additional numbers that will be rung instead of, or as well as the subscriber's own number, any of which can answer the call. A predefined order is used to determine which number(s) to ring next. Once one number has answered the call, ringing on the other configured numbers is stopped. Subscribers must also subscribe to Voicemail if they subscribe to Find-Me-Follow-Me.
Privacy Defender
(This feature is not available in all areas)
Whenever someone calls you, Privacy Defender does not put the call through to you directly. Instead, the calling number is first checked against a permitted numbers list and a blocked numbers list.
- If the calling number is on the permitted numbers list, the call is put through directly
- If the number is on the blocked numbers list, the call will be rejected with a message informing the caller that this number does not accept telemarketing calls.
- If the calling number is not on either list, or if the screening lists are not enabled, the caller is asked to press 8 to confirm that he or she is not a telemarketer.
- If the caller does not press 8 , Privacy Defender does not accept the call and your phone does not ring. Additionally, Privacy Defender plays an announcement informing the caller that this number does not accept telemarketing calls.
- If the caller presses 8 , Privacy Defender accepts the call.
To control Privacy Defender, you will need the Privacy Defender access telephone number, which will be provided by Nex-Tech (7854457200). Once you dial the number, the system will walk you through a menu of options, which will assist you in managing your screening lists.
Selective Call Acceptance
Selective Call Acceptance screens incoming calls against specified numbers (maximum of twenty). Only calls dialed from phone numbers on the list are allowed through to your line while this feature is active.
To Use Selective Call Acceptance:
- Press *64 and a voice recording will help you create a list or add/delete up to eight numbers.
Selective Call Forwarding
This feature forwards incoming calls from a list of specified numbers (maximum of eight). If you subscribe to both Call Forwarding and Selective Call Forwarding, you can have them activated at the same time. You are responsible for the payment of charges for each call between the Selective Call Forwarding line and the line to which the call is being forwarded.
How to Use Selective Call Forwarding:
- Press *63 and a voice recording will help you create a list or add/delete any of the selected numbers.
NOTE: You will be charged long distance rates for calls forwarded to a long distance number.
Selective Call Rejection
This feature automatically rejects calls from a list of prespecified numbers (maximum of eight). Callers from these numbers will hear an announcement that the called number is not receiving calls. All other calls will be accepted.
How to Use Selective Call Rejection:
- Press *60 and a voice recording will help you create a list or add/delete the eight blocked numbers on your list.
To Add the Current Calling Party's Phone Number to Your Rejection List:
- Depress and release the switch hook or flash button.
- Press *60 and a voice recording will help you complete this feature.
Selective Distinctive Ringing/Call Waiting
(This feature is not available in all areas)
You may designate up to eight (8) numbers to be identified by distinctive ringing or, if you also have the Call Waiting feature, by a distinctive Call Waiting tone.
To Use Selective Distinctive Ringing/Call Waiting:
- Press *61 and a voice recording will help you create a list or add/delete up to eight numbers.
Simultaneous Ring
(This feature is not available in all areas)
Subscribers can configure additional numbers which will ring as well as the subscriber's own number, any of which can answer the call.
Speed Dialing 8-Number
To Program or Change Your Speed Dialing 8-Number List:
- Lift the handset, press *74 and wait for the dial tone.
- Dial one of the 8, one-digit speed codes, (2-9).
- Dial the number you wish to speed call.
(For long distance entries, remember to include "1" and the area code). - Press #
- Listen for two "beeps" which indicate that your number has been entered, then hang up.
NOTE: You can continue to enter other numbers on your list by repeating the above procedures, or you may enter them later.
To Use Your Speed Dialing 8-Number Feature:
- Lift the handset and dial the appropriate one-digit speed code, (2-9).
- Pres #. Your call is dialed automatically.
Speed Dialing 30-Number
To Program or Change Your Speed Dialing 30-Number List:
- Lift the handset, press *75 and wait for the dial tone.
- Dial one of the 30, two-digit speed codes, (20-49).
- Dial the number you wish to speed call.
(For long distance entries, remember to include "1" and the area code). - Press #
NOTE : You can continue to enter other numbers on your list by repeating the above procedures or you may enter them later.
To Use Your Speed Dialing 30-Number Feature:
- Lift the handset and dial the appropriate two-digit speed code, (20-49).
- Press #. Your call is dialed automatically.
Three-Way Calling
This feature enables you to have a three-way conversation.
To Use Three-Way Calling:
- Dial your first call, then depress the switch hook or flash button for a second.
- Next, dial the third party. When the third party answers, you may talk privately before completing your three-way connection.
- With your third party now on the line, depress the switch hook or flash button for a second to add the first party. Your three-way call is not completed, depress the switch hook or flash button twice to get back to your first party.
To Disconnect The Third Party:
- Depress the switch hook or flash button for a second. You will now have the original first called party on the line.
Voicemail
Voicemail is an easy-to-use voice answering system for residential and small business subscribers. You may have multiple mail boxes set up for your residence or business. Your callers can leave messages for you when you are away or unable to answer the phone. With Voicemail, you will never worry about missing a call again. Voicemail starts working as soon as you subscribe by answering callers with a standard greeting and storing their messages for you. VoiceManager
(This feature is not available in all areas)
This feature allows the subscriber to manage their telephone service from a PC-based application, such as view logs of incoming and outgoing calls, manage incoming calls, receive the calling number from incoming calls, initiate outgoing calls, display a voicemail message indicator and listen to voice messages.
Warm Line
This feature is excellent for the elderly. The phone automatically dials a predesignated number after a predetermined amount of time has passed. The amount of time is typically 15-30 seconds.
To Use Warm Line:
- Lift the handset and wait. After 15-30 seconds, the predesignated number is dialed automatically.
NOTE: The customer chooses the predesignated number at the time of the Warm Line is activated. Customers wishing to change the predesignated number must contact Nex-Tech's Help Desk at 1-888-565-3200.
To Prevent Automatic Dialing:
- Lift the handset and dial the number you wish to call before the predeterminded amount of time has passed, which is typically 15 seconds.
